Greyson William Morris was born on December 18, 2007, a seemingly healthy, hearty boy with a bright future ahead of him.  He was a son, a brother to three, a grandson, and a nephew.  What no one knew, however, was that Greyson was born with Krabbe Disease. a rare form of leukodystrophy that slowly but surely attacks the nervous system and almost certainly ends in death for those that have it, mostly children under the age of two years old. While the loss of a child is certainly tragic under any circumstances, Greyson’s death is particularly tragic as a simple heel-prick blood test, if done at the time of his birth, would have identified the disease and given options for treatment.  That’s right - a simple Newborn Screen for this disease would have identified it and treatment could have begun immediately.  Instead, Greyson, like many of those before him afflicted with Krabbe and diagnosed too late to make a difference, died before he reached his first birthday.

What is Grey’s Gift?  Greyson, like his mom Nicole, was a teacher.  He taught us all that we can only control the controllables and, as such, we should all live to enjoy the individual moments of our lives.  Like his dad Bill, he was a nurse.  He lifted us up when we were down, seeing that if this little boy could go through this terrible disease and still smile, we could all figure out our day-to-day troubles.  Grey’s gift is simple - he taught us all that love is everlasting, love heals all wounds, and love can allow your spirit to soar even when your body does not have the strength to continue.  Grey’s Gift is his simple reminder to us all to Live Life Like There’s No Tomorrow.
